Norwood Green Residents’ Association ask the Council to reconsider the decision to dispose of the Verona Terrace public car park. This is a much needed and valued community parking facility and we believe that the Council needs to re-assess its view that there is ample street parking in the adjacent area. Residents of Norwood Terrace and Tentelow Lane, patrons of The Plough public house, St. Mary’s churchgoers and parents whose children attend the nearby local schools use this car park on a regular basis. We believe the Council failed in its duties to ensure local consultation prior to the disposal decision and there are a number of issues that need more detailed consideration: emergency services access; the environmental impact caused by increased pollution/reduced air quality especially at school drop off and collection times and possible impact on ancient lights. We recognise the pressure on Council finances and a possible alternative would be to examine the possibilities of the car park generating income and reducing the current high costs of annual maintenance.
