Supporting Faith’s Olympic Dream

Norwood Green Future Olympian?

My name is Faith and I am an 11-year-old swimmer. Swimming is my passion and I train with the London Borough of Hounslow Swimming Club as much as I can.

I won 3 medals at the Middlesex County Championships this year and qualified for the Regional Championships. I am currently in the top 25 in 2 events in the whole of the UK in my age group.

Coach Lisa is taking some of my team mates to a warm weather elite training camp in Fuerteventura. They will be able to train in a 50m pool twice a day and also do land training and yoga. The coaches are all really experienced and qualified including an ex European champion.

When I am older I want to swim in the Olympics for team GB and this camp would be an amazing experience to help me reach that goal.

Thank you for your kind support, Faith Martin.

Stop the sale of Verona Terrace Car Park – Sign the Petition

Norwood Green Residents’ Association ask the Council to reconsider the decision to dispose of the Verona Terrace public car park. This is a much needed and valued community parking facility and we believe that the Council needs to re-assess its view that there is ample street parking in the adjacent area. Residents of Norwood Terrace and Tentelow Lane, patrons of The Plough public house, St. Mary’s churchgoers and parents whose children attend the nearby local schools use this car park on a regular basis. We believe the Council failed in its duties to ensure local consultation prior to the disposal decision and there are a number of issues that need more detailed consideration: emergency services access; the environmental impact caused by increased pollution/reduced air quality especially at school drop off and collection times and possible impact on ancient lights. We recognise the pressure on Council finances and a possible alternative would be to examine the possibilities of the car park generating income and reducing the current high costs of annual maintenance.

Save our Car Park

Dear Norwood Green Residents,

Some of you may have already seen the new sign into the car park opposite St Mary’s Church ‘Verona Terrace Car Park’, and some of you may have already made enquiries about it.

This is one of the Council assets identified to be marketed and disposed on the open market for various purposes including for possible residential development.

“Verona Terrace car park identified for disposal as it is relatively small and used informally not on a charged for basis”

“Verona Terrace car park, Norwood Green, Southall – The car park is currently not enforced by Parking Services and no income is generated from the site, The Council pays to maintain the car park. The parking on this site could be accommodated as on-street parking. The site is suitable for some small-scale residential development.”

“In the case of Verona Terrace Car Park, it is the assessment of the service that users of the facility can have their needs met through on-street car parking and therefore there are no anticipated differential impacts on equality groups arising from the proposal to dispose of this facility.”

More details can be found on the London Borough of Ealing’s website, alternatively click here.

This is obviously going to impact on all of us with regards to parking, traffic congestion and safety on Tentelow Lane, all of which are issues for us already.

We think it might be a good idea to have a preliminary meeting to discuss what plan of action we need to take with a view to save the car park.  A coordinated approach may be more fruitful. We will meet at The Plough on Monday 20th August at 7pm.  We hope as many of you as possible can join us.
